Yesterday I was interviewed on KSL about how I am maintaining my mental health during this time. The question was spurred from the suicide of an ER doctor in New York last week, which was so sad to hear about.
I have found that keeping mentally healthy has come in different forms. Yesterday, I went on a long drive to see a lighthouse. Today, I had plans to go on another adventure to see a different place on the island. Then when I woke up, I saw that it was super cold and dreary out, and I had zero desire to go outside. So, I refocused and decided to stay in for the day. I worked on projects that I have been wanting to do for a while. I organized pictures and music for a long time. I talked with an old high school friend for a while. I do consistently work out, at least five times a week, that aspect of my life has always kept me sane. I plan out fun restaurants to do take out from, because I worship food. I try to talk to friends and family along the way. The only thing I do consistently every day is facetime my sister to see my niece! Those are some of the things that have helped me stay in a good mental space.
I was nervous about how I would handle things mentally while working out here. So far, I have done well, which I am super grateful for. I definitely owe a lot to the people who have supported me through all of this. One of the few positives things that have come from COVID is the growth of my love and gratitude towards the people I have in my life.
Here's the link to the article and video interview I was a part of. Thanks to my friend Aley Lambert, who works for KSL, for thinking of including me in part of their production.
Britt.
