Day 11

Today went much better.

I only had two ICU patients for the entire day, as did all the other nurses. Appropriate ratios make all the difference.

I was really struck today by the unity this COVID has caused, in hospitals and really throughout society. I have no idea where any supplies, phone numbers, or resources are within this hospital. Yet everyone has been more than willing to help me find what I need to get the job done. Doctors are taking on patients outside of their specialties, quickly learning what they need in order to help. Hierarchy lines have been blurred, what needs to be done has become the focus.

The fire and police department did a display of support outside. After such a long work week it actually meant a lot.

These last few months have been an interesting time for everyone. I think we all know at this point the world will not be the same again. There has been some incredible things, and some horrible things. Curious to see how this all plays out.

Britt.
